Let Battle Commence

My name is Ginny and I am about to start a battle. In the red corner weighing in at xxxxxxlbs, a forty something female who loves a g and t versus in the blue corner, the dreaded very fit and toned Gym.

When I first mentioned the joining a Gym idea to friends and family, the response ranged from “what again?” to “have they opened a bar in it?” to “just don’t wear lycra sweetie”. All supportive in their own way, not, but full of doubt that I would actually see it through. This time it is not through vanity, there is a reason behind it. When you sit opposite the Doctor and he says, “you are in good health Ginny, but …” you know it is time to do something to get rid of that but and the other butt !

But why a gym I hear you cry? What about healthy eating ? I don’t do dieting and when you love the odd fish supper too much, it has to be the gym. The only problem I have is that I am a  total gymophobic and the very thought of exercise makes me want to eat six cupcakes in one go,so you can imagine taking this decision is not easy. I am no Cindy Crawford, well not physically, and probably never will be but to be able to enjoy the finer things in life, I need to get in shape.

So why write about it and declare my weight/inch loss to the West End ? There are many other gymophobics out there so I hope they, and you, will enjoy my struggles. I am not trying to be inspirational. Good grief no ! I just thought I would share the ups, downs, the pulled muscles, the badly fitting lycra, the cake and gin and have a laugh along the way.

By the time you read my next article, I will have had my first gym session at the Western Club in Hyndland Road. So I will either be totally inspired or or be in traction in the  Western infirmary. Whichever it is please join me on Twitter @ginorgym or on my Blog http://ginorgym.wordpress.com/
