Sunday Morning Coffee Thoughts 4th November 2012

“The battles that count aren’t the ones for gold medals.

The struggles within yourself — the invisible, inevitable battles inside all of us — that’s where it’s at.”

Jesse Owens

The daily battle of life, the grind to earn our wage and our position, the fight to get the children off to school in time, the attempts to look like a normal human being as we squeeze for our place on the bus! The outward struggles that are seen by all.

But what of the inner battles, the stress the daily grind can cause, the relationships we create and try to hold together, the struggle for validation of a job well done, these are in Jesse Owen’s words “the invisible, inevitable battles inside”. We often do not show them to the outside world but they are just as important to deal with as that spot on your chin or the kid’s lost lunchbox. Don’t ignore the inner conflicts; they often lead to ‘wars and destruction’.

Seek out the peacemakers who can help you resolve the inner battle, never be afraid to ask for help and remember that just like an army, gold medallists have support behind them as well.
