Four go to Fife!

It doesn’t matter how many times I visit Fife / St Andrews, I never get bored with it. There is just so much to see and do especially if you are a foodie or in my case a huge Scottish Gin fan.

Our day started off at Balgove Steak Barn for lunch. It is an amazing atmospheric barn with the fantastic smell of their wood burning stoves.

My friends had steak, I had the burger and our veggie pal had the deep-fried Halloumi, all tasted so fresh and delicious. It is very rustic and you sit at long benches, so be prepared to share, but it is all part of the experience. Great range of local beers and drinks including Eden Mill, more on that later. The shop next door Balgove Larder has a brilliant range with a lot of local produce, including a great butcher counter and deli. The range of fresh local veg was varied the day we went and very seasonal  I bought some sun-dried tomato bread, a yummy marmalade from The Little Herb Farm somewhere that is on our list for our next visit, and of course I sneaked in a gin miniature or two. Balgove is definitely worth a visit.

Next it was off to Eden Mill Brewery and Distillery. This was for a specific reason as they have just launched a new limited edition gin called Botano . I am a huge fan of their Love gin but with Botano they have knocked it our the park! It is a seriously good gin, very refreshing and clean tasting with the Mediterranean notes in the back ground. They served it to us neat at first with a couple of wee basil leaves, so good! When you add the tonic, in this case Fever Tree Mediterranean it turned into a really summery drink. as always at Eden Mill you can have a great chat with them about the gin and what it would go with food wise. Just love this place and even better when my very kind friends bought me a bottle of Botano for my birthday.

Note : “Limited production batch of 4500 bottles with only 2000 available during the first 2 weeks. Botano Gin launches for sale at our distillery retail counter on World Gin Day (Saturday 10th June) – It will be available online from the following week.”

Next it was off for a wander round St Andrews, including a visit to Luvians for ice cream

We headed home after a short walk around the cathedral and the castle, but by this time the rain was really heavy so time to head home via the Coastal Route.

Such a great day out with good friends, so many laughs over the silliest of things but a great start to turning 54.
