Facing 5 Fears : 5 steps to “recovery” !

I had a discussion this morning over coffee about being strong and coping with what life chucks at you. We discussed the fact that no matter how strong you feel the one thing that usually gets you down is the fear of the unknown. Stepping out of your cosy comfort zone into the wilderness without a map is one scary thought. On my way home I started to think, what if I created a map, set those “get over your fear goals” in stone and actually committed myself to overcoming them hurdle by hurdle?

How hard would it be for me to take them off the paper or out of my head and conquer them?

Perhaps the start is making the “fears” more specific, taking each situation or concern apart so that the goals become smaller. So I sat down with my trusty pink notebook, pencil and a bucket of coffee and mind mapped a few things out. I was amazed at how there were a few simple things (she said lightly) that I could do that would really help me on my way to facing some bigger issues.

So here we go, my 5 Face Your Fear Goals to be conquered by the end of November, with a promise to “Blog them”!

Fear:  Self Confidence

Goals

  1. To fit into my little black woollen dress by November. I want to wear it to a memorial service for the friend who bought it for me, the dress shows off everything and she was always daring me to wear it.

  2. To write and present another talk I have been asked to do.

Fear: Trust

Goals

  1. To go for a wall climbing lesson, something I have always wanted to do even though it scares the you know what out of me

  2. To be able to push myself harder in the Gym without the fear of hurting myself,  specifically lifting weights

  3. Be able to get back on a motorbike as a passenger (long story)

These five are just the start; they are relatively tiny yet concrete steps in overcoming long-term fears and phobias.

And my motivation let me leave it to Rosa Parks …

“I have learned over the years that when one’s mind is made up, this diminishes fear; knowing what must be done does away with fear … “

Mind made up and I have till the end of November!
