Back in the Western saddle again


Whether it is the Gene Autry or the Aerosmith song, both kept going through my head this afternoon as I headed back to the familiar territory of the Western Health and Racquets Club Gym on Hyndland Road. I had taken some time off putting the old body through pain as I felt it was a bit foot sore after the 26 mile Kilt Walk and needed time to recover. However as one challenge fades into the prairie sunset another rides into town in the shape of my 50th birthday.


When I started this slog towards a fitter me, one of the things GymGuyMark asked me was what did I want to achieve, and I do believe I said that my main goal was to look fabulous by the time I turned 50. So my friends with only a month or so to go, it is time to start “tottin the old guns and get back in the saddle again”!

Today I just did some cardio, 30 minutes fast pace walking on the treadmill, going like there was a coyote on my tail. I managed a half decent time and the good thing is I was not out of breath.  Then onto the bike for another 20 minutes, and altogether, I managed to cover 5.6 miles in just under an hour.  Not too shabby for this ol’ cowgirl!

After lots of stretching it was time to head back to the ranch for some home-made soup and crackers, yes even the grub is being taken seriously!

Tomorrow is a day off; I am going to watch the Glasgow 7’s rugby but come Monday night it is heading back to the Western again for a brand new challenge in the shape of Metafit with Mark! This is not going to be easy but just like the cowboy who rides off into the sunset at the end of the film; it is time to move this body up to new things and get it in shape to face the gunfight at the 50 Corral and make sure I win and look rootin tootin fabulous!
